Path of development

The history of the Military Institute began in 1933, when a military department was established at Kyiv State University. Over the decades, the unit evolved from a small training office into a strategic center for training the military elite.

In 1983, due to the multidisciplinary nature of reserve officer training, the military department was reorganized into the Military Department for the training of reserve officers and military-technical training, as well as civil defense and medical training cycles.

After Ukraine regained independence, in 1991, the Military Training Department of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University was established on the basis of the Joint Military Department.

In 1998, by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 21 January No. 64, the Military Training Department was transformed into the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Today the institute is the only military educational institution in Ukraine training specialists in military translation, military political science, journalism and social communications, finance and military economics.
