History of the Academy

The Military Academy (Odesa) is a modern multi-branch higher military educational institution with more than a century of history and deep traditions. The history of military education in Odesa begins with the Odesa Infantry School, founded in 1865 by order of the Minister of War.

In 1899, the Odesa Cadet Corps was established, training officer cadres for the Russian Empire. After Ukraine regained independence, on the basis of the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution of 19 August 1992, the Military Institute was established on the basis of three Odesa schools.

On 30 June 2011, in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 286 of 23 March 2011, the Military Institute of the Odesa National Polytechnic University was reorganized into the Military Academy (Odesa).

Today the Academy trains highly qualified officers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations at the "bachelor" and "master" educational-qualification levels, and also conducts professional development and postgraduate education.
