28th Separate Mechanized Brigade
The 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign (28 OMBr) —
is one of the oldest and most battle-hardened formations of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,
part of the "South" Operational Command.
The brigade was formed on June 1, 1998, on the basis of the 89th Mechanized Regiment.
In 2019, it was given the honorary name in honor of the Knights of the Winter Campaign —
participants in the First Winter Campaign of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic of 1919–1920.
The initiative to give the brigade the historical traditions of the UPR Army
belonged to the then brigade commander Maksym Marchenko and a group of officers.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022,
28 OMBr has taken part in the liberation of Kherson,
and since December 2022 has carried out combat missions in the Bakhmut direction.
