63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade

The 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade (63 OMBr) is a combat formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed on July 23, 2017.

The brigade has distinguished itself in numerous operations during the Russian-Ukrainian war and continues to carry out combat missions at the front.

The brigade was created on March 14, 2017, by a joint directive of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The first combat coordination exercises took place in September–October 2017 at the Rivne training ground, with the participation of more than 3,000 reservists.

In October of that year, the brigade arrived in the ATO zone.

After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, 63 OMBr was quickly reinforced with reservists and took part in fighting in southern Ukraine, including in Mykolaiv Oblast and during the Kherson counteroffensive.

In November 2022, the brigade took part in the liberation of Kherson.

From December 2022, the brigade was redeployed to Bakhmut, and since 2024 it has held the defense in the Lyman direction in the Serebrianske forest.

The brigade's soldiers distinguished themselves in the battles for Kreminna and in other operations in eastern Ukraine.

As of 2024, the structure of 63 OMBr includes:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mechanized Battalions;
23rd, 51st, 52nd, and 55th Rifle Battalions;
tank battalion (equipped with T-72EA);
artillery regiment, including 2S1 "Gvozdika" and 2S3 "Akatsiya" self-propelled howitzers, BM-21 "Grad" multiple rocket launchers, and MT-12 "Rapira" anti-tank guns;
air defense, reconnaissance, engineer, logistics, signal, medical, and other units;
unmanned systems units, including "Promin" and "Moon Planet".

The brigade is equipped with modern weapons, including:
T-72EA tanks (modernized versions, supplied by the Czech Republic);
BMP-1 and MT-LB, some modified with 2A72 30mm cannons;
2S1 "Gvozdika" and 2S3 "Akatsiya" self-propelled howitzers;
BM-21 "Grad" and "Bastion-2" multiple rocket launchers;
MT-12 "Rapira" anti-tank guns;
unmanned aerial vehicles, including "Leleka-100" and A1-CM "Furia".

The brigade's Battle Flag is a symbol of honor, valor, and combat glory.

On December 6, 2023, 63 OMBr received its Battle Flag from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The brigade's coat of arms depicts an aggressive lion on a red-and-black shield, a silver knight's cross, and the motto "We win freedom in battle."

The field sleeve patch is done in a dark green color scheme.

The brigade actively sustains fighting spirit and traditions, organizing events for servicemen and their families, and conducts active outreach through its official Facebook page.
