21st Separate Mechanized Brigade

The 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade (21 OMBr) is a modern formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Since its creation, the brigade has actively taken part in combat operations, including in the area of the city of Kreminna, where it effectively carries out missions to repel enemy attacks.

The brigade was formed approximately in 2023 as part of the expansion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strengthen defense capability and prepare for possible offensive operations.

It is part of the reserve of the Ground Forces Command.

In 2023, the 21st Mechanized Brigade was equipped with weapons supplied by Sweden.

The brigade became the first to lead Swedish CV90s into battle.

In April 2024, the brigade continued to defend the village of Terny in the Lyman direction.

In September 2024, the brigade carried out combat missions in Sumy Oblast.

The structure of the 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade:
Brigade headquarters and headquarters company.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mechanized Battalions.
Tank battalion.
Artillery battalion, which may include:
self-propelled artillery batteries
rocket artillery
anti-tank units
Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Battalion
Reconnaissance company
Engineer-sapper battalion
Unmanned aerial systems company
Sniper company
Signal company
Repair and recovery battalion
Logistics battalion
Medical company

Tanks:
Strv 122 — the Swedish modification of the German Leopard 2A5.
Leopard 2A6 — German main battle tanks, transferred to the brigade in 2023.

Infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs)
CV9040 — Swedish tracked IFVs with a 40mm automatic cannon.
Rosomak — Polish wheeled IFVs, supplementing the CV90 fleet.

Artillery:
Archer — Swedish 155mm self-propelled howitzers, known for their high mobility and accuracy.

Special equipment
Bgbv 90 — a Swedish armored recovery vehicle designed to evacuate damaged equipment from the battlefield.

The brigade's unofficial motto is "Always Free." This motto reflects a striving for freedom and independence,

which is the basis of the fighters' motivation and their readiness to carry out combat missions.

professionalism, and dedication to service, which helps ensure the effective execution of combat missions

and maintains high morale among personnel.
