31st Separate Mechanized Brigade
The 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade (31 OMBr) is a mechanized formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, brigade-sized.
In the summer of 2023, the brigade took part in counteroffensive operations in the South, in the Rivnopil area.
When it was formed, the 31st Brigade received mostly Soviet-era weapons, unlike 9 other brigades that were being created at the time with Western training and equipment.
On June 26, 2023, it was reported that the brigade had attacked in the Rivnopil area and occupied a village. The brigade's 2nd battalion dislodged the Russian 394th Motor Rifle Regiment from a height with an encirclement maneuver, causing the Russians to flee their positions. Prior to this, Russian propaganda had spread claims that the 31st Brigade, along with the 23rd Mechanized Brigade operating together in this sector, had been defeated.
The brigade includes:
a reconnaissance platoon;
state secret protection services;
a secret document support group;
a communications section;
an unmanned systems battalion;
a medical company.
T-64BV tanks, MaxxPro MRAPs, a LOCKER mobile repair workshop.
The culture and traditions of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade are shaped by a combination of historical heritage, modern military practices, and high morale. This helps strengthen the unit's combat capability and its role in the defense of Ukraine.
The brigade's motto — Ferro et igne (Latin for "By Iron and Fire") — reflects the unit's determination and fighting spirit. This motto emphasizes the brigade's readiness for decisive action in defending Ukraine.
The brigade actively upholds Ukrainian military traditions, including using the motto "I am coming against you!" — the words of Prince Sviatoslav the Brave, symbolizing an offensive spirit and courage.
