156th Separate Mechanized Brigade

156th Separate Mechanized Brigade (156 OMBr) is a mechanized formation of Ukraine's Ground Forces. It was created in 2024.

The 156th OMBr was formed as part of the buildup of new brigades initiated by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in response to the need for updated, mobile, and combat-capable units to withstand the aggressor on various sectors of the front.

According to David Axe, as of October 2024 the 156th Brigade was one of 14 brigades recently formed in Ukraine, 10 of which were part of Ukraine's Ground Forces. Most of these brigades, including the 156th, were formed as infantry brigades, but by October 2024 Ukrainian officials announced that the 156th would be upgraded to a mechanized brigade.

The brigade includes:
mechanized battalions;
a tank battalion;
an artillery group;
air defense, engineer, signal, and reconnaissance units;
a medical company;
logistics support units.

Armored vehicles and armored cars, artillery, motor vehicles, small arms and infantry weapons.

The brigade is made up of patriotically minded soldiers — both experienced servicemen and new recruits, volunteers, and veterans. This is a new generation of defenders determined to liberate Ukrainian land and destroy the enemy.
