29th Separate Tank Battalion

The 29th Tank Battalion is an armored unit within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, designated for conducting offensive and defensive operations using armored vehicles. The battalion's main function is breaking through enemy defenses, supporting infantry, conducting counterattacks, and destroying enemy armored vehicles and firing positions. The unit has a high level of mobility, firepower, and protection.

The 29th Tank Battalion was created in response to the deteriorating security situation, particularly after the start of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine. In 2022, the battalion began active participation in combat operations, carrying out missions in key directions where heavy equipment was needed. The battalion's tank crews operated in the hottest points of the front, destroying enemy columns, fortifications, and firing points. They repeatedly took part in assaults, breakthroughs of defensive lines, and repelling attacks. The battalion has been recognized for its courage, endurance, and effectiveness in combat.

Tank companies (main combat units);
technical support company;
command company;
repair and recovery group;
medical and rear support.

Main battle tanks: T-64BV, T-72, possibly modernized variants (T-64BM "Bulat", foreign tanks provided by allies);
machine guns: PKT, DShK, NSV — as additional tank armament;
communication systems, thermal imagers, and reconnaissance drones for targeting and coordination.

The battalion cultivates a tradition of combat brotherhood and mutual support. Tank crews honor fallen comrades with a moment of silence before combat sorties. The tradition of a "baptism of fire" is preserved for newcomers — a solemn welcome into the unit after their first combat sortie. Speed of decision-making, courage, and precision in carrying out missions are highly valued in the battalion. Soldiers have their own symbolism, sleeve patches, and mottos that underscore the unit's tank spirit. On significant dates, gatherings are organized, heroes are honored, and training and demonstration firings are held.
