44th Separate Artillery Brigade
The 44th Separate Artillery Brigade named after Hetman Danylo Apostol is a powerful artillery formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, based in the city of Ternopil. The brigade's main task is to provide fire support to mechanized and tank units on the battlefield, destroying enemy fortifications, equipment, and personnel. The brigade includes tube, rocket, and self-propelled artillery. The unit is notable for its high mobility, fire accuracy, and the professionalism of its personnel.
The brigade was created in 2014 amid Russian aggression, when there was an urgent need to form new artillery units. Its formation was based on officers and servicemen with combat experience who had gone through the ATO/JFO. From its first months of existence, the 44th OABr actively took part in combat operations in eastern Ukraine. The brigade's artillerymen supported the defense near Debaltseve, Avdiivka, Popasna, and later in many other directions. The unit distinguished itself in containing enemy offensive operations, destroying enemy equipment and ammunition depots. After February 24, 2022, the brigade has been actively operating as part of the operational groupings of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, supporting counteroffensives and defensive operations. Over the years of the war, the brigade has earned the respect of its comrades and the gratitude of the civilian population.

The 44th Separate Artillery Brigade has its own combat traditions, shaped under wartime conditions. Brigade Day, marking the unit's founding date, is celebrated every year, accompanied by award ceremonies, honoring the fallen, and formal events. Personnel maintain the tradition of combat brotherhood: even after demobilization, veterans keep in touch with the unit. Artillerymen often take part in patriotic events, speak with schoolchildren and students, and hold military-patriotic events in Ternopil and the surrounding oblast. An important tradition is honoring fallen comrades: the brigade has established memorials and created a "Book of Remembrance." There is also a tradition of initiating recruits as artillerymen — a ceremony held at the training ground after their first live-fire exercises. The brigade actively cooperates with local communities, volunteers, and benefactors, which strengthens ties with the rear and boosts morale. The words "Death to the enemy — precisely and accurately!" have become the brigade's unofficial motto.
